Ordu – Early Diagnosis in Women's Cancers Saves Lives
Op. Dr. Halil Alagöz: “Gynecological oncology check-ups are essential not only for detecting disease but also for maintaining a healthy life.”
Op. Dr. Halil Alagöz, Chief Physician and Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at Private Ordu Sevgi Hospital, stated that regular monitoring and early diagnosis are vital in combating the most common gynecological cancer types in women. He emphasized that cancers such as cervical (cervix), uterine (endometrium), and ovarian (ovary) can progress silently. “These diseases often do not show symptoms in their early stages. Therefore, routine gynecological examinations and screening tests are of vital importance,” he said.
Dr. Alagöz highlighted that the HPV virus is one of the most significant risk factors for cervical cancer and said, “The HPV vaccine is an effective method to protect women against this virus. However, even vaccinated individuals should regularly undergo smear tests and HPV DNA testing.”
He noted that women with a family history of breast, ovarian, or uterine cancer may be at higher risk. “Patients in this group should be monitored more frequently due to genetic predisposition,” he stated.
“With early diagnosis, both treatment success increases and quality of life is preserved. Women’s health is not only about treating diseases, but requires conscious follow-up throughout all life stages,” said Op. Dr. Halil Alagöz, inviting all women to have a gynecological evaluation at least once a year.
