Ordu – Proper Timing is Crucial in Knee and Hip Prosthesis Surgery
Op. Dr. Haci Önder: “Advanced-stage osteoarthritis severely reduces quality of life, and surgery may be the solution.”
Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Op. Dr. Haci Önder from Private Ordu Sevgi Hospital explained that advanced osteoarthritis in the hip and knee joints significantly limits patients’ mobility in daily life, and in such cases, prosthetic surgery offers a functional solution.
Dr. Önder said, “Osteoarthritis develops over many years. Initially, pain is only felt when climbing stairs or after walking, but over time, this pain may persist even at rest. As the joint structure deteriorates, mobility is lost. At this stage, medications become insufficient, and surgical options come into play.”
He noted that the success rate of hip and knee prosthesis surgeries is quite high thanks to advances in surgical techniques and modern prosthetic technology. “Proper patient selection, preoperative preparation, and postoperative physical therapy directly affect success. With early intervention, it is possible to both eliminate pain and maintain independent living,” he added.
